Instadash is an application designed to integrate Instagram photos into a Pinterest-like dashboard for the computer.Show more screenshots »
The app was created in 12 hours during Stockholm's Startup Hack event on May 12, by Arno Smit and Magnus Johansson. It gives users the ability to view Instagram photos on a computer without the ability to actually add photos to it. The application is so new, there is no other information available regarding development or traffic.
The interface is cleaner and less cluttered than Pinstagram. Full iPad support and the ability to integrate with Dropbox are also new and useful features. Also, Instadash's location feature allows users to view all photos taken in one location in a grid with a map.
Once linked and authorized, the user is directed to a quick introduction page. Users may connect Dropbox. This requires the user to sign in to their Dropbox account. If allowed, it will create a folder named "instadash" in the user's Dropbox. Instadash will only have access to this folder. The user may also connect to Facebook and Twitter for social sharing. Facebook requires permission to view basic info and email address. Twitter requires permission to read tweets in timeline, see who the users follow and follow new people, update the user's profile, post tweets for the user.
After the desired links are completed, the user is presented with their dashboard. Any photos taken with Instagram have been linked to the Instadash. The user may view their own photos, a feed of photos from friends, photos the user has "liked", and the most popular current photos being shared.
To like another user's photo, simply click on it to open a window with options to like it and/or share it via social media.
The search function allows searches via # subject or @ username. This mimics Twitter, so users will likely be familiar with the use of these types of tags.
Overall, Instadash is a clean, easy to use, third party application for viewing and commenting on Instagram photos via computer.
Users must have an Instagram account to log in. Instagram must be downloaded and the user must register through their mobile device and give permission to Instagram to access Facebook friends. The user may choose to follow some or all of their Facebook friends within Instagram. Users may also be imported from the contact list. Once Instagram is set up, the user may sign into that account on the desktop or laptop via the "Create your dashboard now!" link on Instadash.
Users must then authorize the application to access basic information such as photos, friend lists, and profile; like photos with the user's permission; comment on photos with comments composed by the user; follow or unfollow users with the user's permission.
Instadash is free to use.
Instadash is a mashup of Pinterest and Instagram. Fans of those apps may like Instadash as a means of viewing instagram photos from a computer interface.
Since users can use hashtags and comment on photos, it is a good way for socializing through photos and viewing images on the computer rather than on mobile devices or other social media outlets.
